Abstract

In patients with CKD, food intake is especially important in the state of health, especially in those who undergo peritoneal dialysis, influencing the biochemical parameters, which would improve the control of uremic symptoms, in addition to slowing down the progression of the damage to kidney function and preserve the nutritional status of patients. The objective of the study was to determine the influence of food intake on biochemical parameters in chronic kidney patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis at the SERDIDYV health center in the city of Guayaquil. The study had a quantitative, correlational approach, with a descriptive epidemiological design. The analyzed sample consisted of 40 patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis, taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results in the sample determined a significant statistical relationship with the value of P <0.05, through the relationship of variables, it was obtained between the consumption of proteins and the values of creatinine P = 0.024, and between the consumption of dairy and the values of triglycerides of P = 0.014. In other words, both in the consumption of proteins and in the intake of dairy products, the normal values of creatinine and triglycerides, respectively, are modified. Therefore, it shows us that the type of diet of patients could directly influence their biochemical values.
