Abstract

This paper addresses the problem of cognitive impairment and the affections that occur in the notion of the subject, both anatomically and psychically. Therefore, the objective is to analyze the use of music as an element in the clinical intervention in older adults with cognitive impairment: Alzheimer's and cerebrovascular damage; to determine its incidence in the conservation of the self and in the reconstruction of significant links. Due to the demand of a disabled clinic for older adults, this research was carried out. The qualitative and explanatory method was used, selecting a sample population of older adults between 65 and 75 years of age with cognitive impairment and cerebrovascular damage. In addition, interviews were used, taking the MEC test and analysis of the data obtained, in order to observe the results of the research; which were: change of posture, active body language, emotions and memories were evoked to talk about the subject's history. To conclude, the research work focused on innovating a new tool, music, to apply in the psychoanalytic clinic with older adults, who present cognitive impairment or cerebrovascular damage; aspiring to have a resource that enables another form of approach in the contemporary clinic.
