Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the way in which the medical-scientific discourse of postmodernity makes the subjective suffering caused by disease invisible and the effects that this has on the body of the subject living in poverty. To do this, an extensive bibliographic review is used from psychoanalytic theory, as well as from philosophy and, to a lesser extent, the social sciences. Subsequently, a series of five interviews are carried out with medical personnel and mothers of patients in a public hospital in the city to contextualize the subject and, subsequently, a clinical analysis is carried out that allows the problem to be fully shown. As a result, it is concluded that the body of the subject living in poverty is decisively affected by the inhuman treatment given to it, due to the absence of a symbol that grants it a place in society, which is exacerbated. By the imperative of enjoyment of postmodernity, and the dehumanization of a medicine that has become pure technique.
