Abstract

The study is based on the orientation offered by the cognitive-behavioral approach to psychology and behavioral analysis, specifically taking as a reference the behavior of older adults to the feeling of abandonment and in order to observe how these responses can be seen from the context of a nursing home in the city of Guayaquil, which will remain anonymous and how this context can in turn feed the older adult's feeling of abandonment. The research is a descriptive study and used a mixed approach maintaining flexibility between quantitative and qualitative data and whose tools used for the collection of information were surveys to older adults and professionals of the gerontological department. It gathers the contributions of behavioral psychotherapies throughout its trajectory and emphasizes the contributions of experimental psychology provided by B. F. Skinner on the psychology of gerontology. F. Skinner on psychology and his conceptualizations about covert and overt behavior and other authors who continued this idea. Finally, a review of the information and an analysis of the results is carried out in order to determine whether the elderly are indeed emotionally affected by the feeling of family abandonment, to what extent and how much the reality experienced by an asylum seeker may be distorted by the perception and the way of manifesting discomfort in the face of the problem.
