Impacto en el sector bananero del conflicto Rusia-Ucrania en las exportaciones en 2021- 2022.

Abstract

In the present research work, a study is contemplated to determine the impact that the war between Russia and Ukraine has caused in the Ecuadorian banana sector and its exports during the period 2021 and 2022. It should be noted that exports are currently concentrated in Europe, Asia and Russia, which represent 60 % of the country's total international trade; on the other hand, due to the closure of the port of Odessa in Ukraine, banana shipments had to be redirected to other destinations, an action that triggered a saturation of the market due to the decrease in demand. The reduction in industry activity as a whole contracted by 8.04% at the end of the first half of 2022 in relation to the same period in 2021. In summary, the effects of the war at the level of exports led to a slight decrease, but when evaluating it from the side of the costs due to fertilizer imports by increasing the prices of energy measured by oil and logistics in general, it is a significant impact on the banana industry
