Abstract

Maritime transport is currently the most concurrent and efficient for international trade, its great efficiency has generated an increase in river traffic, for this reason, it seeks to prevent and reduce pollution caused by the emission of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter, which is why this research work will analyze Annex VI of MARPOL, which is the main agreement that deals with the prevention of environmental pollution caused by ships and platforms. This regulation establishes the parameters of protection and prevention that must be carried out to mitigate the atmospheric pollution caused by the daily and normal operation of ships, therefore, it seeks to determine the need to ratify the convention, as well as the proposal of short and long term solutions. Finally, we seek the creation, updating and implementation of regulations in Ecuador, which will be a complement to prevent the deterioration and destruction of our marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
