Investigación histórica urbana y arquitectónica 1915 - 1945 del Barrio del Centenario de Guayaquil.

Abstract

This research document presents the historical development of “Barrio del Centenario” in Guayaquil, from the beginning to its consolidation that occurred between 1915 and 1945. This is done with the purpose of presenting a justification for a patrimonial declaration after its historical, urban, and architectonic impact. Starting from the aspects in consideration, given by the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (INPC - Spanish Acronym), it is stablished the foundation for the heritage declaration of a neighborhood. Through the historical and comparative methodology, a bibliographic inquire about the urban and architectonic aspects of the city was done. After premises stablished by the INPC, a comparative analysis between this neighborhood and the rest of the city during a bounded time was conducted, in this way important aspects were collected in order to demonstrate its historical impact, and therefore the consolidation of its memory and identity through the neighborhood assessment. Complementarily, using the record processing technique and the historical deductive methodology, the conclusions about the relation of the context, development and design of the neighborhood are sketched out. Therefore, this investigation confirms that “Barrio del Centenario” presents the potential that is needed to be declared heritage, under its preservation and history. It proves that even though there is dereliction and desolation due to the disinterest towards the above-mentioned spaces considered patrimonial, in this district, urban and architectonic aspects that represent the spirit of the epoch in which it was created and developed are still found, showing its impact and innovation for the city.
