Uso del dique de goma en tratamientos de prostodoncia por odontólogos del Ecuador.

Abstract

Introduction: The quality of the isolation of the tooth is important to avoid leaks in both directions, the field of operation and the oral cavity. It has been reported that dam placement prior to bonding ceramic restorations aims to avoid any contamination and maximize bonding properties between ceramic and tooth surface. Objective: The objective of this work was to determine the knowledge about the use of the rubber dam in prosthodontic treatments by dentists in Ecuador. Materials and Methods: This research was carried out through a survey prepared in the QuestionPro application. Results: Of 364 participants, 84.34% of those surveyed answered that they do use the rubber dam but only 22.48% of the professionals carry out rehabilitation treatments. The procedures in which absolute isolation is used in the oral rehabilitation part are dental preparations for onlay and inlay type inlays (20.12% - 19.51%); and their cementation (22.61% - 21.84%). Conclusions: It can be concluded that the use of the rubber dam by professionals is considered the gold standard procedure due to the multiple advantages it offers for both endodontic and restorative procedures. The cementation of onlay or inlay type inlays is the rehabilitation treatment in which the rubber dam is most frequently used, however, it is considered essential for any other procedure due to its high success rate.
