Análisis del impacto a corto y largo plazo del embarazo adolescente en el empleo femenino en Ecuador.

Abstract

The main objective of the research is to analyze the short and long term effect of teenage pregnancy on female labor in Ecuador, using an econometric model to alleviate the limitations of women's access to the labor market, analyzing independent variables such as teenage pregnancy and the dependent variable, GDP, level of education and female unemployment. A quantitative methodology was used to estimate the causal relationship between teenage pregnancy and unemployment between 1991 and 2022. Among the main results, it should be noted that in the first periods no clear relationship was found between teenage pregnancy and female unemployment. But from the fourth period onwards, it is noted that when teenage pregnancy decreases, unemployment also decreases in the long term. This shows that its impact on the female labor market becomes more evident over time. On the other hand, if the teenage pregnancy rate increases in Ecuador, so does female unemployment, reflecting the difficulties faced by women in this situation. Nevertheless, the results affirm that teenage pregnancy plays an important role in the increase of female unemployment in Ecuador.
