Abstract: The Cerro Blanco Protected Forest is located in the city of Guayaquil and represents one of the areas where part of the tropical dry forest of the Ecuadorian coast is still preserved. The area initially belonged to the Cemento Nacional company and was declared a Protected Forest in 1989. Since 1992, the Pro-Bosque Foundation has been responsible for managing the Cerro Blanco Protected Forest and promoting actions aimed at conservation, restoration, research, environmental education, and ecotourism. The area covers approximately 6,078 hectares and is characterized by its great diversity of flora and fauna, including endemic and threatened species. It is located in the Chongón-Colonche mountain range and has a tropical dry climate, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 30 °C.. Its conservation is important because of the environmental benefits it provides, including carbon capture, climate regulation, and soil protection. Different activities are carried out in the area, including hiking, birdwatching, nature photography, camping, among others. Although these activities allow visitors to enjoy and learn about the natural environment, they need to be properly managed to prevent damage to vegetation, soil, and wildlife. Despite the conservation measures that have been implemented, the forest faces threats related to urban expansion, climate change, invasive species, and uncontrolled tourism. Therefore, it is necessary for institutions, the Pro-Bosque Foundation, and visitors to work together to protect this ecosystem.
