Un acercamiento al movimiento Drag como performance y arte transformista en la vida nocturna guayaquileña.

Abstract

This work aims to make the drag movement visible as a performance and a transformist art within the Guayaquil nightlife with a qualitative investigation. For this, in-depth interviews with two local drag artists were used to elaborate their life stories as biographies; a semi-structured interview was conducted with an expert on drag as an art form, as a performance and as a social movement. In addition, a bibliographic review of five academic publications that detail the manifestations of this conglomerate was carried out. Thus, it will be possible to review the origins and evolution of the drag movement in Ecuador and the world. From this process, the factors that contributed to its emergence, the myths that surrounds it, its internal dynamics, and the obstacles faced by its expansion in the local context were evidenced. The ignorance that citizens have regarding the subject, the prejudices that society brings with it and homophobia, are some of them.
