Abstract

This research aims to identify the perceptions of the followers of Freestyle rap, in order to explain it as a youth subculture, from the imaginary dimension, and its possible substitution for physical aggression. The present work was carried out through a sociological and psychoanalytic perspective, using concepts that contribute to the dynamics and identification within the Freestyle subculture. Based on the collection of empirical data, through interviews with Freestyle followers, the qualitative abductive methodological approach was used. The analysis of the interviews made it possible to show the perceptions of the Freestyle followers who participate and their effects on a symbolic and imaginary level in the battles against the other.
