Des-institucionalizar la norma : ruptura de roles femeninos en la novela Falsa Identidad de Sarah Waters desde un enfoque feminista posestructuralista.

Abstract

The following essay consists in analyzing, from three chapters, the main characters of the novel Fingersmithfrom a poststructuralist feminist perspective. Thefemale figure in the work of Sarah Waters is contextualized in the Victorian era, where heteropatriarchal hegemony dominates the protagonists’ environment. Waters, interested in the study of gender and the rupture of feminine roles, exhibits them through this novel using the neo-Victorian narrative style. The purpose of this narrative is to expose contemporary ideologies in the Victorian context to obtain a new perspective of characters that, before in nineteenth-century novels, had not been noticed. This premise is reflected in Fingersmith, where the female characters are built with subversive attitudes to break their roles accustomed as women of the nineteenth century. The analysis of these behaviorsis formulated, mainly, from the studies of feminist theorists, Judith Butler and Luce Irigaray.
